When I was on my way to visit the tomb of Ibn Arabi in Damascus–one of the the Sufi masters mentioned in my piece on Sufis in Syria–I was struck by the beauty of the sun hitting the shades on one of the houses nearby, while a young man was selling nuts under a makeshift metal canopy beneath.
